Bhutan's Tourism Policy
In 1991 the government of Bhutan privatized the tourism industry. The policy of Bhutan is to have high value/low impact tourism. The government seeks to have all tourism be environmentally, ecologically, socially, and culturally friendly. The number of tourists allowed in is limited to further this goal.
To this end a tourism council was established to handle the following functions:
- Tourism planning and policy
- Tourism monitoring
- Promulgate regulations
- Facilitation and Co-ordination of tourism
- Marketing and Promotion of Bhutan
- Development of Tourism Products and Services
- Human Resource Development
